About Me

I grew up in California and was raised by my grandparents. I attended Fullerton Junior College in southern California. That is where I found my career passion – working with young children. I graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. I promised myself I would earn my bachelors degree in the near future.
Soon after that I had my only child, April Raine. When she was a small child we moved to a tiny town named Cusick, Washington in the northeast portion of the state. That is where I began my career working in the Head Start program as a bus driver, assistant, teacher, mentor teacher, family advocate, education specialist and eventually director. I loved my work with children.
As time went on, I remembered the promise I made myself 15 years earlier – to complete my 4 year college degree. The nearest college was 60 miles away, and the winters were harsh! I found a program that worked into my schedule and I was able to complete a Bachelors of Science degree in Organizational Management before my 40th birthday. (Better late than never!)
After taking 2 years off from school, I decided to go back to college and work towards my dream job – being a school counselor. My daughter and I moved to Utah where I have a lot of family. The University of Utah accepted me into their small program for school counselors. I completed a Masters degree in Educational Psychology in 2004. Since then I have worked 3 years in junior high schools in the Granite School District and 4 years here at Rose Park Elementary. I couldn’t be happier with the work that I get to do every day!!
My advice to everyone who reads this biography….. follow your dreams!!!!! Hard work and dedication pays off! It is great to earn a pay check doing something you love!!
